Italian sculptor and architect of the early Renaissance. Born in Florence, he was assistant to Ghiberti and collaborator with Donatello, and served as an architect for Cosimo de' Medici. He had a delicate sensibility for ancient decorative motifs, and in his architectural works he expressed refined sculptural decorativeness in the interior (Santa Maria delle Grazie, Pistoia) and light, free-flowing spatial expanse (Library of the San Marco Monastery, Florence), as well as orderly hierarchical beauty and power in the exterior (Palazzo Medici Riccardi, Florence).

初期ルネサンス時代のイタリア人彫刻家，建築家。フィレンツェに生まれ，ギベルティの助手，ドナテロの共同制作者となり，建築家としてコジモ･デ･メディチに仕えた。古代の装飾モティーフに対する繊細な感覚をもち，建築作品では，内部において洗練された彫塑的装飾性(サンタ･マリア･デレ･グラーツィエ教会，ピストイア)と軽くのびやかな空間の広がり(サン･マルコ修道院図書館，フィレンツェ)を，また外部において秩序だった階層美と力感(パラッツォ･メディチ･リカルディ，フィレンツェ)を表現した。
