A general term for followers of the ideas of Wycliffe in England. The name Lollard is said to come from the medieval Low German word lullen (to sing in a low voice). They became influential at the end of the 14th century, and their preaching is said to have been one of the causes of the Wat Tyler Rebellion. Since the Wycliffe theory was rejected at the Council of Constance, this movement was also persecuted by the Roman Catholic Church, and after the failure of a rebellion led by one of its leaders, J. Oldcastle (c. 1378-1417), in the early 15th century, they went underground.

英国のウィクリフの思想の信奉者の総称。名称Lollardの由来は中世低地ドイツ語のlullen（小声で歌う）といわれる。14世紀末に有力となり，その説教活動がワット・タイラーの乱の一因ともされる。ウィクリフ説はコンスタンツ公会議で排撃されたので，この運動もローマ・カトリック教会の弾圧を受け，15世紀初め指導者の一人オールドカースルJ.Oldcastle（1378年ころ―1417年）の反乱失敗後は地下に潜伏した。
