A city in southwest Michigan, USA. Population 190,000 (1994). The city was named after the rapids of the Grand River that runs through the center of the city. Michigan is rich in forests, so the city developed mainly around furniture production. Not only wooden furniture but also metal furniture is manufactured, and the city is particularly active in the manufacture of chairs and seats for schools, churches, and theaters.
