Fushimi Tokiwa

Japanese: 伏見常盤 - ふしみときわ

The title of a Kōwakamai dance. Ban can also be written as 槃 or 岩. The author is unknown. It was created during the Muromachi period. It is based on the Tale of Heiji and is classified as a Heijimono (tale of the Heiji period) or a Tokiwamono (tale of the Tokiwa period). Tokiwa Gozen was a lady-in-waiting to the retired emperor, and was so beautiful that she was chosen for a beauty contest held at the emperor's residence. At the age of 17, she was given to Minamoto no Yoshitomo by the retired emperor, and gave birth to three children. When Tokiwa heard that Yoshitomo had fled and been killed in the Heiji Rebellion, she visited Kiyomizu-dera Temple to pray for the fate of her children, and decided to flee to Yamato Province following the advice of the temple's saint.

幸若舞の曲名。盤は槃，磐と書く場合もある。作者不明。室町時代の成立。《平治物語》に材を得た作品で，平治物に分類され，常盤物と分類されることもある。常盤御前は院に仕える女房であったが，たいへんな美女で，院で行われた美人競べに選ばれるほどであった。17歳のとき，院から源義朝に与えられ，3人の子どもを生む。義朝が平治の乱に敗走し，殺されたのを知った常盤は清水寺に詣でて子どもの行末を祈願し，坊の聖の忠告に従って大和国に落ちることにする。
