Gandhi Research Institute

...Peace studies in India, in particular, have a long history and are very active. At the Gandhi Institute, Gandhi's ideas of peace and non-violent resistance are studied, while at the Center for the Study of Developing Societies, a wide range of themes spanning politics and economics, such as caste systems, multi-ethnic states, social change, participation, decentralization, religion, culture, and new lifestyles, are studied as basic conditions for building a fair world order. It is not surprising that peace studies were conducted at an early stage in Japan, the only country in the world to have experienced the atomic bombing and which has a peace constitution that sets out the principles for the future order.
