Japanese: 卵巣囊腫 - らんそうのうしゅ（英語表記）ovarian cystoma

A benign ovarian tumor in which the epithelium (surface epithelium) covering the surface of the ovary becomes tumourous, and when the tumor is cut open, there is no solid area, and it is cystic, with watery or gelatinous matter or old blood pooling inside. It accounts for about two-thirds of ovarian tumors, and occurs most frequently in women in their 30s and 40s. The walls of the cyst are grey-white and smooth, but in some cases, the tumor cells grow in a papillary shape, and the tumor may become a borderline tumor or adenocarcinoma.

良性の卵巣腫瘍の一つで，卵巣の表面をおおっている上皮(表層上皮)が腫瘍化し，腫瘍を切り割ったとき，割面に充実部がなく，囊胞性で，その中に，水様またはゼラチン様，あるいは古くなった血液がたまった囊胞性腫瘍をいう。卵巣腫瘍の約2/3を占め，30～40歳代に好発する。囊腫の壁は灰白色，平滑であるが，一部，腫瘍細胞が乳頭状に増殖し，良･悪性境界領域の腫瘍(境界悪性腫瘍borderline tumor)や腺癌になることもある。
