…After independence, large-scale multipurpose dams were constructed to expand and improve irrigation systems. Representative examples include the Bhakra-Nangal and Gandak dams. Since the 1960s, the spread of electric pumped deep wells (tube wells) has been remarkable, in line with the progress of rural electrification and advances in well-drilling technology.
