Customs duty rate - Kanzeiritsu

The Uruguay Round was a critical juncture for the establishment of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which was established in January 1995 as a replacement for GATT.
[Tariff rates and tax base]
There are two types of tariff rates: national tariff rates, which are determined by domestic law, and convention tariff rates, which are determined individually by treaties with foreign countries. Tariffs imposed according to national tariff rates are called national tariffs (voluntary tariffs), and tariffs imposed according to convention tariff rates are called convention tariffs (treaty tariffs). Currently, the only convention tariffs in Japan are those based on GATT (or the WTO), so they are sometimes called GATT tariffs.
