...After independence, the pension system was restored, and in 1983 national civil servants and in 1987 local civil servants switched to the Public Servant Mutual Aid System based on the principles of social insurance. The Pension Law has continued to exist since then, but it only serves as the basis for pension payments to retired civil servants, former military personnel and civilian employees, and their surviving family members until the time of the transition to the new law. Pensions are broadly divided into pension payments and lump-sum payments. Pension payments include ordinary pensions for retirees, increased pensions for those disabled in the line of duty, injury and sickness pensions, ordinary assistance payments for surviving family members, public service-related assistance payments, increased non-official death assistance payments, and special pensions for surviving family members of injured and sick persons. Lump-sum payments include injury and sickness grants, lump-sum pensions, and lump-sum assistance payments.
