Interlude - Interlude

Japanese:
Interlude - Interlude
Music inserted into a larger piece of music. There are various forms in the history of European music. (1) In church music, it is called interludium, and refers to short organ pieces played between verses of hymns or psalms. (2) In 16th-century Italy, it is called intermezzo, act-tune, and other entertaining music or small-scale drama inserted between secular plays, especially tragedies, as interludes. It was held independently of the plot, and included solo and choral performances as well as dances with instrumental accompaniment. This encouraged the members of the Camerata to create operas, and these interludes were also carried over to opera. It was performed as a semi-independent story within an opera, and its scale gradually expanded, until in the first half of the 18th century, the main part of the play branched off into opera seria, and the play within the play branched off into opera buffa. (3) A piece of music that connects the acts of a play or opera, usually an instrumental piece. From the second half of the 17th century onwards, it was also called intermezzo, act-tune, etc. The intermezzo from Schubert's "Rosamunde" is well known. (4) Character pieces with lyrical characters from the 19th century onwards. Brahms' work is famous.
