Lizong (English spelling) Lǐ zōng

Japanese: 理宗 - りそう（英語表記）Lǐ zōng

The fifth emperor of the Southern Song Dynasty of China. Reigned 1224-64. His given name was Zhao Yun. He was the 10th generation grandson of Emperor Taizu Zhao Kuangyin. The fourth emperor Ningzong was supposed to be succeeded by King Yi Zhao Hong, but the Prime Minister Shi Miyuan disliked this and devised a scheme to support Yun. Lizong was a taciturn man devoted to Neo-Confucianism, and after Shi Miyuan's death in 1234 he changed his era name to Duanping and appointed scholars such as Zhen Dexiu, but failed. Faced with Mongol pressure, he handed over power to Jia Sidao, paving the way for the downfall of the Southern Song Dynasty.

中国，南宋第5代皇帝。在位1224‐64年。姓名は趙昀（ちよういん）。太祖趙匡胤（ちようきよういん）10代の孫にあたる。4代皇帝寧宗のあとは沂王（きおう）の趙竑（ちようこう）が継承するはずであったが，宰相史弥遠（しびえん）はこれを嫌い，策謀をめぐらし昀を擁立した。寡黙で朱子学に傾倒していた理宗は，1234年史弥遠の死とともに端平と年号を改め，真徳秀らの学者を登用するが失敗。モンゴルの重圧を前に，賈似道（かじどう）に政権をゆだねて南宋滅亡への道を開いた。
