...Article 2 of the Japanese Labor Union Law excludes company-affiliated unions from the definition of a labor union, and Article 7, paragraph 3 of the same law prohibits employers' attempts to turn labor unions into company-affiliated unions as unfair labor practices. When labor unionization progressed in the United States after World War I, employers formed company unions around the 1930s as organizations to counter labor unions, and this is the origin of company-affiliated unions. Company-affiliated unions were banned in the United States in 1935 by the Wagner Act, and the above-mentioned provisions in Japan after World War II also follow this lineage. ...
