This refers to the appendages divided into segments that develop in arthropods. The segments articulate with each other and with the body segments at the base of the limb. The number of segments is thought to be eight in trilobites, seven in chelicerates, crustaceans, myriapods, and insects, and in trilobites, chelicerates, and crustaceans, numerous segmented limbs (exopods) derive from the basal limb alongside the main limb (endopod). The limbs are further segmented or fused secondarily, producing projections, spines, and bristles, and exopods disappearing, giving each appendage a unique shape according to its specific function.
