...After sintering, for machine parts, sizing may be performed to improve dimensional accuracy, recompression and resintering to improve density, and powder forging may be performed. For hard alloys, hot isostatic pressing (HIP) may be performed to eliminate tiny residual voids. The above are common methods of powder metallurgy, but recently, for nickel-based superalloys, aluminum-based alloys, and titanium-based alloys, a method has been used in which the rapidly solidified alloy powder is placed in a can and hot forged to make it dense, thereby obtaining high-performance materials.
