Kawabata Minoru

Japanese: 川端実 - かわばたみのる

1911－2001 A Western-style painter from the Showa and Heisei eras.
Born May 22, 1911. Grandson of Kawabata Gyokusho. Member of the Kofu-kai in 1939, and awarded the Saburi Prize in 1941. Became a professor at Tama Art University in 1950. Transferred from the Kofu-kai to the Shinseisaku Association in 1952. Moved to New York in 1958, and won an award at the Guggenheim International Exhibition in the same year. Was active internationally as an abstract artist. Died June 29, 2001. Age 90. Born in Tokyo. Graduated from Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts). Works include "Form in the Greenery."

明治44年5月22日生まれ。川端玉章の孫。昭和14年光風会会員,16年佐分(さぶり)賞。25年多摩美大教授。27年光風会から新制作協会にうつる。33年よりニューヨークに移住,同年グッゲンハイム国際展で受賞。抽象作家として国際的に活躍。平成13年6月二九日死去。90歳。東京出身。東京美術学校(現東京芸大)卒。作品に「緑のなかのフォルム」など。
