Hiroshi Ikeuchi

A scholar of Oriental history, he made outstanding achievements in the study of Northeast Asia (the so-called Manchuria and Korea) and ancient Japanese history. He graduated from the Department of History, College of Literature, Tokyo Imperial University in 1904 (Meiji 37), and became an assistant professor in 1916 (Taisho 5), where he was in charge of the first Korean history course. He became a professor in 1922 (Taisho 11), and wrote many papers and worked to train talented successors. In 1937, he was nominated as a member of the Imperial Academy. He also made a significant contribution to ancient history research at the request of the Research Department of the South Manchuria Railway Company. His major works include "Manchuria and Korea History Research" (6 volumes), "The Bunroku-Keicho Invasion" (2 volumes) and "New Research on the Mongol Invasions" (2 volumes), and "A Study of Ancient Japanese History."

東洋史学者。東北アジア（いわゆる満州、朝鮮）および日本の古代史の研究で優れた業績を残した。1904年（明治37）東京帝国大学文科大学史学科を卒業、1916年（大正5）助教授となり、初設の朝鮮史講座を担当。1922年（大正11）教授となり、多くの論文の執筆と有能な後進の育成に努めた。1937年、帝国学士院会員に推された。また南満州鉄道株式会社調査部の依頼による古代史研究面でも大きく貢献した。主要著書に『満鮮史研究』全6冊、『文禄慶長(ぶんろくけいちょう)の役』『元寇(げんこう)の新研究』全2冊、『日本上代史の一研究』などがある。
