Japanese: 劔岳 - つるぎだけ

Also written as Tsurugidake. A mountain in the eastern part of Toyama Prefecture, north of Mt. Tateyama. 2999m above sea level. Since ancient times, it has been revered as a sacred and untrodden mountain. It is made of gneissic greenstone, and is connected to Ikenohirayama in the north and Maetsungu and Tsurugi-gozen in the south. It is known for its steepness, especially on the eastern slope, where the hanging glacial valleys of Heizakura-dani, Chojiro-dani, and Sanno-mado are deeply carved, and between them are Yatsumine and Genjiro Ridge, which are considered to be representative rock climbing spots in the Japanese Alps. There are hiking trails from Tsurugisawa hut on the eastern foot of Tsurugi-gozen and Babajima at the end of the Hayatsuki Ridge in the west.

剣岳とも書く。富山県東部，立山の北側にある山。標高2999m。古来より神聖不可踏の山として畏敬(いけい)されていた。片麻岩質のセン緑岩からなり，北は池ノ平山，南は前劔，劔御前に連なる。山体の険しさで知られ，特に東斜面は懸垂氷食谷の平蔵谷，長次郎谷，三ノ窓が深く刻み，その間に日本アルプスの代表的岩登りの場とされる八ッ峰(やつみね)や源次郎尾根がある。劔御前東麓の劔沢小屋，西の早月尾根末端の馬場島(ばんばじま)から登山路がある。
