Nansha (English spelling)

Japanese: 南社 - なんしゃ（英語表記）Nán shè

A literary association in the late Qing and early Republic of China. Founded in Suzhou in 1909 by Chen Qubing (1874-1933), Gao Xu (1877-1925), and Liu Yazi, it brought together mainly literati from the Southeast. It attempted to express the revolutionary sentiments of the anti-Qing national revolution in old poetry and prose, and published 22 volumes of the Nanshe Congkoku (Nanshe Congkoku) (1910-23). In terms of literary history, this shows the level of old poetry and prose at the time. After the Xinhai Revolution, the association flourished with over 800 members at one time, but it became fragmented with political and cultural changes, and took a stance against the New Culture Movement during the May Fourth Movement, and ended its life as an association in 1923.

中国，清末･民初の文学結社。1909年陳去病(1874‐1933)，高旭(1877‐1925)，柳亜子の発起により蘇州で結成，主として東南の文人を集めた。反清民族革命の革命的感情を旧詩文で表現しようとし《南社叢刻》(1910‐23)を22集まで刊行した。これは文学史的には当時の旧詩文の水準を示す。辛亥革命後一時は社友800人を超える盛況を示したが，政治的･文化的変化とともに分化，五･四運動期の新文化運動には反対の立場をとり，1923年結社としての生命を終えた。
