Prohibition - Kinshi

Used to mean restraint, inhibition, prohibition, or taboo, it refers to the disruption of normal physiological and psychological functions. In learning psychology, it is a concept used to explain the process by which learned behavior fails or disappears. Generally speaking, it refers to an activity that acts as a restraint on the excitation process. When talking about the prohibition of incest, the word prohibition means forbidden or taboo. Lévi-Strauss states that the prohibition of incest is a social institution that guarantees the exchange of women through marriage, and that "prohibition creates society."

抑制、制止あるいは禁制、禁忌の意味で使われ、生理的、心理的に正常な機能が妨害されることをいう。学習心理学では、学習された行動が失敗したり消失したりする過程を説明するための概念である。一般的には、興奮過程に対し抑制的に働く活動をいう。近親相姦(そうかん)の禁止というときの禁止は禁制、禁忌の意である。レビ・ストロースは、近親相姦の禁止は婚姻による女性の交換を保証する社会的制度であり、「禁止が社会をつくる」と述べている。
