Kinokawa is an old town in the Naka district in northern Wakayama Prefecture. The main settlement on the right bank of the Kinokawa River developed as a temple town for the Tendai sect's Kokawa-dera temple, the third of the 33 temples of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, and the Wakayama Line runs through the town. The town produces citrus fruits such as mandarins, and also grows flowers and vegetables. The Kokawa-dera temple's picture scroll, the Kokawa-dera Engi Emaki, is a national treasure. In November 2005, the town merged with the towns of Uchida, Naka, Momoyama, and Kishigawa in Naka district to become Kinokawa City. Area: 77.73 km2 .
