A paleographical concept regarding the writing of dates on ancient documents. The era name, month, and day are written on one line. Usually, in origami documents issued by magistrates of the Muromachi Shogunate, the era name is written in small letters to the right of the month and day, which is called tsukenengou (attached era name), whereas those on tategami paper are written in kakigyo (written under the era name). Generally, official documents such as kushikyo documents, kudashibumi (written under the orders), and getijo (written under the orders) are all written in kakigyo (written under the era name), whereas documents in the shōsatsu (written under the era name) do not generally have the era name written on shōsatsu (written under the era name). However, even on shōsatsu (written under the era name), the shōsatsu (written under the era name) began to be used for notarized certificates of donations, grants, rulings, and confirmations from the end of the Heian period onwards.
