The time of the observation of the image - Kanshojuji (English)

Japanese: 観象授時 - かんしょうじゅじ（英語表記）guān xiàng shòu shí

This refers to a method of observing astronomy and determining the movement of seasons when the calendar system was in its infancy. As the Chinese classic "Book of Documents" Yao Dictionary states, "The sun, moon, and stars are used as calendar symbols to reverently inform the people of the time," and the "Book of Changes" Ben hexagram states, "Observe the celestial phenomena and use them to understand the changes of time," when the calendar system was incomplete, the role of the ruling class was to observe astronomical phenomena such as the appearance of the sun, moon, and stars, to observe the regularity of the changes of the four seasons necessary for agriculture, and to inform the people of the time at large.

暦法が未発達の段階において，天文を観察し季節の運行を定める方法をいう。中国の古典《書経》尭典に〈日月星辰を暦象し，敬（つつ）しんで民に時を授く〉とあり，《易経》賁（ひ）の卦（か）に〈天文を観（み）て，以て時の変わるを察す〉とあるように，暦法が完成していない段階では，太陽，月，星の出現の状態などの天文現象を観察し，農耕に必要な四時の変化の規則性を見て，広く人民に時を知らせることが支配層の任務であった。
