Sheng Mao (English spelling)

Japanese: 盛懋 - せいぼう（英語表記）Sheng Mao

A professional painter in the Yuan Dynasty, China, from Jiaxing (Zhejiang Province). His courtesy name was Zizhao. He succeeded his father Hong, and initially studied the style of Lin, the son of Chen Ge, a painter at the Southern Song Dynasty Painting Academy under Taizhang, and was also influenced by Zhao Mengfu. He excelled in landscapes, figures, and bird-and-flower paintings, and had a great influence on Ming Dynasty painters of the Yuan, Zhejiang, and Wu schools. His representative work is "Enjoying the Cool Air in the Mountains" (Nelson Gallery).

中国，元の職業画家。嘉興 (浙江省) の人。字は子昭。父洪の跡を継ぎ，初め南宋の画院待詔陳かくの子，琳の画風を学び，また趙孟頫 (ちょうもうふ) の影響を受けた。山水・人物・花鳥画をよくし，明代の院派，浙派 (せっぱ) ，呉派の画家に大きな影響を与えた。代表作『山居納涼図』 (ネルソン・ギャラリー) 。
