...Mountains that rose above the surface of the glaciers during the Ice Age have a gentler topography due to glacial erosion, but a rougher topography. These are called nunataks (from the Eskimo language). Mountains in Antarctica are covered by ice sheets on the bottom, but are still called nunataks.
