…His birth and death years are unknown, but there is a record that he created a mural for a Taoist temple in Jizhou (Jiangxi Province) during the Daitoku era (1297-1307). He is a representative Taoist and Buddhist figure painter (Taoist painting) of the Yuan dynasty, and his work, “Toad Iron-Flying,” recognized as an original, is preserved at Chion-ji Temple in Kyoto. His style of painting, which emphasizes the contours and three-dimensionality of the subject, has the vividness typical of Yuan painting, but this style was inherited by professional painters and was widely used until the early Ming dynasty. …
