Kamezu

Japanese: 亀津 - かめつ

The former area of Tokunoshima Town in southern Kagoshima Prefecture. Located in the southeast of Tokunoshima in the Amami Islands. The town was established in 1942. In 1958 it was merged with Higashi Amagi Village to form Tokunoshima Town. This was the central area of Tokunoshima Town. During the Edo period, it was the location of the magistrate's office. Later, it became the location of the Tokunoshima Branch Office and a branch office of the Oshima County Office, and developed into the center of the island's politics, culture, and more. Kametoku Port, the island's sea gateway, is located nearby. Large quantities of brown sugar are shipped here, and it is a port of call on the main shipping route connecting the islands of the Amami Islands with Kagoshima and Naha.

鹿児島県南部，徳之島町の旧町域。奄美群島の徳之島南東に位置する。1942年町制施行。1958年東天城村と合体して徳之島町となる。徳之島町の中心地区。江戸時代は代官所所在地。その後，徳之島支庁，または大島郡役所の出張所所在地となり，島の政治，文化などの中心地として発展。近くに島の海の玄関である亀徳港がある。多量の黒砂糖を積み出し，奄美群島各島と鹿児島，那覇を結ぶ主航路の寄港地。
