Born on September 11, 1879. Became a professor at Niigata Medical College and then Niigata Medical University, and later became a professor at Keio University. In 1924, he received the Academy Prize for his research on lipids. In 1932, he received the Asakawa Prize for discovering that the pathogen of scrub typhus is Rickettsia. He passed away on October 31, 1947, at the age of 69. He was born in Yamanashi Prefecture and graduated from Tokyo Imperial University. His publications include "General Pathology" (co-authored).
