Dorcopsis (English spelling)

Japanese: ドルコプシス（英語表記）dorcopsis

A general term for wallaby-like marsupial mammals of the Dorcopsis genus in the macropod family. There are five species, including Dorcopsis muelleri and D. hageni . As a kangaroo, it is characterized by poorly developed hind legs, with little difference between them and its short forelimbs. Its ears are small and hairless. Its body color is chocolate or blackish brown. Dorcopsis has a thin white line down its back. Body length is 60-83 cm, tail length 32-50 cm. It lives in the tropical rainforests of New Guinea.

ワラビーに似た有袋目カンガルー科ドルコプシス属の哺乳類の総称。オオドルコプシスDorcopsis muelleri，セスジドルコプシスD.hageniなど5種がある。カンガルー類としては，後肢の発達が悪く，短い前肢との差が少ないのが特徴。耳は小さく毛がない。体色はチョコレート色，あるいは黒褐色。セスジドルコプシスでは背すじに細い白線がある。体長60～83cm，尾長32～50cm。ニューギニアの熱帯雨林にすむ。
