Karikachi Tunnel

...This saddle in the northern Hidaka Mountains in central Hokkaido is named after the border between Ishikari and Tokachi provinces. In 1907, a railway line (the Nemuro Main Line) that crosses this pass was opened with the completion of the Karikachi Tunnel (total length 953m), and the development of the Tokachi region progressed rapidly. After crossing the pass by train, the view suddenly opens up at the eastern exit of the tunnel, and you can see the vast plains of Tokachi from the train window.
