A village in Ishikawa County in southern Ishikawa Prefecture. Population 1,171 (1995). The Tedori River runs along the northwestern border, and the Noumidani River, a tributary of the Tedori River, runs through almost the center. Apart from a few lowlands along the rivers, most of the area is mountainous and part of the Ryohaku Mountains. It has had a deep connection with Mt. Hakusan since ancient times, and at the end of the Heian period it belonged to the Kawachi Manor of the Hakusan Imperial Estate, and from the Nanboku-cho period onwards it was ruled by the Yuki clan, the local lord. During the Edo period it was part of the Kaga Domain, and belonged to the Kawachi Group. It has the smallest population in the prefecture. 石川県南部,石川郡の村。人口1171(1995)。北西境を手取川,ほぼ中央を手取川支流の直海谷(のうみだに)川が流れる。河川沿いにわずかに低地があるほかは大部分が両白山地に属する山地である。古くから白山との関係が深く,平安末期には白山宮領河内荘に属し,南北朝期以降は地頭の結城氏が館を構えて支配した。江戸時代は加賀藩領で,河内組に属した。人口は県下最小である。農林業を主産業とし,ワサビ,エノキダケ,山菜の出荷が行われる。
