Haakon [VII] - Haakon

Japanese:
Haakon [VII] - Haakon
King of Norway. Reigned 1905-1957. Son of Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik (later King VIII). Norway had been a vassal state of Denmark for a long time, and the Danish king was also the king of Norway. In 1814, Sweden replaced Denmark and formed a personal union with Norway. On June 7, 1905, the Norwegian parliament declared independence, and in November, Danish Prince Carl was welcomed as King Haakon VII of Denmark as King of Norway. When Norway planned independence in 1814, Carl's grandfather, Christian IX, showed support for the realization of the plan, and so his grandson Carl was chosen. Prince Carl requested a national referendum before accepting the throne, and ascended to the throne after receiving the majority's support. When the German army invaded Norway on April 9, 1940, at the beginning of World War II, King Haakon VII, government ministers, and members of parliament fled to central Norway. The German envoy urged the King to surrender, but he refused, and on June 7th fled to London with his cabinet members. Hitler forced Parliament to decide to depose the King, but the King also refused this decision and remained in London until the end of the war. The people fought through five years of German occupation under the direction of the government in exile in London, and the King became the spiritual pillar of the people's resistance against the Nazis.
