It is widely distributed from Yakushima, the southern limit of the hosta distribution, to the Oshima Peninsula in Hokkaido, and the flowering season is from late June to early August. Its distribution area does not overlap with that of H. kiyosumiensis F.Maekawa (distributed in Chiba Prefecture) and H. kikutii F.Maekawa (distributed in Miyazaki Prefecture), which are closely related to H. sieboldiana. H. longipes (Fr.et Sav.) Matsum. (illustration) has thin bracts and completely smooth veins on the underside of the leaves. It is distributed from Kyushu to southern Tohoku, and the flowering season is from mid-August to early October, but there are regional differences in the quality, shape, and wilting of the bracts, and five varieties are distinguished. …
