Kinkazan (Velvet)

…The ground weave is usually plain weave, but there are also twill and satin weaves. Various types of velvet are made based on the above, but patterned velvet, in which gold and colored threads are woven into the weft, is called Kinkazan and is highly prized as a high-quality obi fabric and decorative fabric. It has also been used as the most expensive fabric in Europe since the Middle Ages, for altar draperies in churches, bishops' vestments, and clothing for royalty and nobility.
