closed die forging

Forging is a process in which the material is heated to a temperature below the recrystallization temperature of the material.

Hot forging can be divided into two types: free forging, which uses an open die to allow the material to deform freely in the direction perpendicular to the forging direction, and closed die forging, which uses a closed die to compress and mold the material inside the die. The former is usually used to manufacture large items, while the latter is used to manufacture small precision items.
