…The rate of damage to coal mines shown in Table 2 has decreased to 20% of that of 10 years ago, approaching the rate of damage to metals and limestone, which has also decreased. Furthermore, as shown in Table 3, the causes of damage to coal mines show that the most frequent damages are related to handling of equipment and minerals, rock falls and sidewall collapse, and transportation, and the lack of damages such as gas and coal dust explosions, gas outbursts, landslides, and spontaneous combustion, which tend to cause large-scale damage with many casualties at once, is a major factor in the decrease in damage. In terms of classification, major damages are gas and coal dust explosions (gas explosions, dust explosions), gas outbursts, landslides, spontaneous combustion, fires, floods, wind damage, snow damage, earthquakes, or loss or theft of explosives, other accidents involving explosives, damage resulting in one or more fatalities, damage resulting in three or more victims including injuries that are expected to take four or more weeks off work, and damage resulting in five or more victims at the same time. Major damages are those that cause three or more fatalities or five or more victims at the same time.
