Gasket (English)

Japanese: ガスケット（英語表記）gasket

A fixed seal used to prevent leakage by clamping it between contact surfaces that do not move relative to one another (→ packing). Materials used are not affected by the fluid in the container or pipe, and do not lose elasticity under pressure or temperature. Currently, there are three types: (1) Nonmetallic gaskets Made of leather, asbestos, rubber, synthetic resin, etc., and available in flat, square, round (O-ring), V-shaped, etc. (2) Semi-metallic gaskets Made of rubber and asbestos containing metal, or a combination of metal and asbestos, and available in parallel, corrugated, sawtooth, and spiral types. (3) Metallic gaskets Made of aluminum, brass, monet metal, lead, iron, or other metal materials, and used for high temperatures and high pressures.

漏れ止め用の部品で，相対運動しない接触面にはさみこんで使用する固定シールをいう (→パッキン ) 。容器や管内の流体に侵されず，圧力や温度に対しても弾性を失わない材料が用いられる。現在，次の3種に分けられている。 (1) 非金属ガスケット　皮，石綿 (アスベスト) ，ゴム，合成樹脂などを用い，平形，角形，丸形 (Oリング ) ，V字形などの種類がある。 (2) セミメタリックガスケット　ゴムと金属入り石綿，金属と石綿の組合せ材があり，平行，波形，鋸歯形，渦巻形などの種類がある。 (3) 金属ガスケット　アルミニウム，黄銅，モネメタル，鉛，鉄その他の金属材料を用い，高温，高圧の場合に使用する。
