Mieszko II (990-1034), who succeeded Bolesław the Brave, was forced into exile (1031) due to a rebellion by his brother Bezprym, who allied with Kievan Rus, and returned the following year, but the throne had already been returned to the German emperor. The following year, when his son, Kazimierz Odnowiciel (1016-58), succeeded Mieszko II, a popular revolt broke out against the imposition of Christianity (1035-37), and Odnowiciel was forced into exile again.
