Year of death: April 23, 1917 Year of birth: 25th June 1870 (23rd July 1870) A Japanese painter of the Meiji and Taisho periods. The eldest son of metalwork artist Kajita Masaharu. Born in Shita-ya, Tokyo. His real name was Joujiro. After studying the Shijo school under Nabeta Gyokuei, he studied various schools and studied historical painting under Kikuchi Yosai. He participated in the founding of the Japan Young Painters Association in 1891, the Japan Painters Association in 1894, and the Japanese Painting Association in 1896. He also produced many illustrations for newspapers and magazines, and published a collection of designs called Wakakusa in 1902. He was knowledgeable about historical events, clothing, and designs. He attended the Japan Art Academy as a special assistant rather than a full member, keeping a certain distance from it, but many of his students, including Kobayashi Kokei, Maeda Seison, and Okumura Togyu, would later go on to be the foundation of the Japan Art Academy. 没年:大正6.4.23(1917) 生年:明治3.6.25(1870.7.23) 明治大正期の日本画家。金工家梶田政晴の長男。東京下谷生まれ。本名錠次郎。鍋田玉英に四条派を学んだのち,諸派を研究,菊池容斎にも私淑し歴史画を研究した。明治24(1891)年日本青年絵画協会,29年日本絵画協会,31年日本画会の結成に参加。新聞や雑誌の挿絵も数多く手がけ,37年には図案集『若草』を出版。故事,服飾,図案に通じた。日本美術院には,正員ではなく特別賛助員としてやや距離をおいた形で参加したが,半古の門下には,小林古径,前田青邨,奥村土牛ら,のちに日本美術院を背負う多くの作家が育った。代表作「春宵怨」(1902,東京国立博物館蔵)など。 (佐藤道信) 出典 朝日日本歴史人物事典:(株)朝日新聞出版朝日日本歴史人物事典について 情報 |
