Located upstream of the Abe River, at the southern foot of Hakkomine, it is an inconvenient location about two hours by bus from Shizuoka, deep in the mountains. It was said to be a secret hot spring for the Takeda clan of Kai during the Sengoku period, and in the Edo period, it was also called Koganeyu (golden hot spring) because the nearby Umegashima (Abe) gold mine flourished. The Southern Alps can be seen nearby, and if you cross Abe Pass to the northeast, you can reach Minobu in Yamanashi Prefecture.
