Liver cancer

Cancer that occurs in the liver can be divided into primary cancer and metastatic cancer. The former includes hepatoma, which arises from the liver parenchyma epithelium, and cholangiocarcinoma, which arises from the bile duct epithelium. The latter often metastasizes from intraperitoneal organs such as the stomach, biliary tract, pancreas, colon, and rectum, but can also metastasize from cancer of the esophagus or lung. Symptoms generally include liver enlargement and jaundice. In the case of early primary cancer, partial hepatectomy is performed, but many metastatic cancers are not resectable.

肝臓にできる癌で，原発性癌と転移性癌に分けられる。前者には肝実質上皮から発生する肝細胞癌 hepatomaと胆管上皮から発生する胆管細胞癌 cholangiomaがある。後者は胃，胆道，膵臓，結腸，直腸などの腹腔内臓器から転移することが多いが，食道や肺の癌からも転移する。症状としては，一般に肝臓の腫大や黄疸が認められる。初期の原発性癌の場合には肝部分切除が行われるが，転移性癌の多くは切除不可能である。
