〘 noun 〙 The act of gambling. Also, the item that is bet. It is said to be the root of words such as "tsugunau." It is often used as the second part of compound nouns. ※Kojiki (712) states, " If you should obtain this young lady, <omitted> I will also prepare everything from the mountains and rivers and make her a rich bean." [Additional note] There is a problem with the kana usage, but is it related to "Kakeru suku bakugi togamble" in the "Iroha Jiruisho" ?

Also, to be prepared to sacrifice something for a certain purpose. ※News from London (1901)〈Natsume Soseki〉3 "The protagonist of my lodgings is about to stake his enormous body on the decision to have a showdown with the small boss."

〘Ta Ra 4〙 To compete for victory by betting on something. To gamble. ※Zokushika (around 1165) Gisaki "After taking advantage of the people's weakness and riding on their shoulders, you may think that riding on a spring horse is painful."
