A Confucian scholar in the mid-Edo period. A samurai of the Mito domain. A native of Sanki Province (Kagawa Prefecture). His name was Munekiyo, commonly known as Sukesaburo . He studied Buddhism at Myoshinji Temple in Kyoto, but later became skeptical of Buddhist teachings and returned to Confucianism. He studied under Shu Shunsui, and was employed by Tokugawa Mitsukuni in Mito, where he served as his personal attendant. He traveled around the country to collect historical materials in order to compile the "Dai Nihonshi." He was named president of the Shokokan. His works include "Nangyo Zakkoku" and "Jitchikusai Bunshu." He lived from 1640 to 1698 . 江戸中期の儒者。水戸藩士。讚岐国(香川県)の人。名は宗淳(むねきよ)、通称助三郎。京都の妙心寺で仏教を研鑽したが、のち、仏説を疑って儒学に帰し、朱舜水に学び、水戸の徳川光圀の登用を得て近侍として仕え、「大日本史」の編纂のため全国に史料を採訪。彰考館総裁に挙げられる。著「南行雑録」「十竹斎文集」など。寛永一七~元祿一一年(一六四〇‐九八)
