...It occupies the center of a series of basins stretching from north to south, called the Central Lowland, between the Daisetsu and Tokachi volcanoes in the east and the Teshio and Yubari mountains in the west. It is bordered by the Nayoro Basin, a low andesite mountain range in the north, and the Furano Basin, a welded tuff hill range in the south. The basin floor is 100-200m above sea level and consists mainly of alluvial deposits of fan-shaped gravel. The Konbundai in the northwest and the Kaguradai in the southwest are 20-40m above the alluvial surface, and both are based on Tokachi welded tuff and topped by terrace deposits 5-10m thick. In the southern foothills of the basin, there is a gently sloping plateau 250-600m above sea level, made of Tokachi welded tuff. *Some of the terminology that refers to "Kaguradai" is listed below.
