Kounu [town] - Kounu
A former town in Kono District, eastern Hiroshima Prefecture. The Fukuen Line runs along the Joge River, a tributary of the Gono River that flows through the center of the prefecture. Most of the town is mountainous, on the Kibi Plateau. The town produces rice and timber, and also operates dairy farming. It also engages in manufacturing, such as textiles, metal processing, and picture frames. In April 2004, it merged with Miyoshi City, Kisa Town, Mirasaka Town, Miwa Town, Kimita Village, Nuno Village, and Sakugi Village in Futamata District to form Miyoshi City. 65.17 km2 . 3,305 people (2003).
