…His real name was Mikhail Evgrafovich Saltykov. He is also known as Saltykov-Shchedrin. Under strict censorship, he wrote many works that sharply exposed the political corruption and injustice of serfdom in Russia, using allegory and satire in the form of Aesop's words, which refrained from direct expression.
