Playwright, director, novelist, essayist. Born in Ibaraki Prefecture. He participated in the new theater movement while studying English at Waseda University. After graduating, he led a wandering life, but was recognized for his play "Amanoiwato" (1924), and published a collection of plays "Hitodama Kibyō" (1927). He later joined the Shintsukiji Theater Company, but later changed his mind and left the new theater movement, adapting and directing Shinpa and Shinkokugeki plays. After World War II, he became a company associate of the Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun, and serialized his satirical and alarming essays "Burari Hyōtan" (1948-51) in the paper, which was well received. He also wrote the autobiographical novel "Ninjō Baka" (1932-33).
