Japanese:
Hidemitsu Akechi
Year of death: June 14, 1582 (July 13, 1582)
Year of birth: Unknown A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Son-in-law of Akechi Mitsuhide. Originally called Miyake Yaheiji, he is said to have later taken the name Akechi. His wife was Mitsuhide's daughter, but she first married Araki Murashige. However, in 1578, when Murashige rebelled against Oda Nobunaga, she was divorced and later remarried Hidemitsu. As soon as Hidemitsu confirmed Mitsuhide's Honnoji Incident, he moved from Azuchi Castle to Sakamoto Castle, the residence of the Akechi clan. However, the castle was also surrounded, and Hidemitsu, who must have learned of Mitsuhide's death, let his subordinates escape, presented local products to the enemy commander Hori Naomasa, and then stabbed Mitsuhide's wife and children and his own wife and children to death, set fire to the castle, and committed suicide. Hidemitsu's father was also captured in Yokoyama, Tanba Province, and crucified at Awataguchi in Kyoto. <References> Mitsutoshi Takayanagi, "Mitsuhide Akechi"
