...There are two types of outsiders: those who migrated from elsewhere and lived in the village but were treated as outsiders, and those who lived elsewhere and formed some kind of social relationship with the village, leading to their recognition as outsiders. The former were called "kitarimono" or "kitarido," and even if they lived within the village, they were not immediately allowed to join the village. Even after they were allowed to join, they were often discriminated against from the original villagers in various aspects, such as participation in rituals and use of the common property. It took several generations for outsiders to become full villagers. ...
