Writing out - Writing out

In paleography, this refers to the beginning of a document. Typically, official documents and informal documents begin with the sender and addressee, followed by a note summarizing the contents, followed by the main text (nakagaki). Also, in imperial edicts and official orders, the note comes first, followed by the main text. In these cases, the main text begins with "The above," following the note. In imperial edicts and letters, the opening wording varies depending on the rank of the sender and recipient, but it is not consistent.

古文書学で、文書の初めのところをいう。通例、公式様(くしきよう)文書や下文(くだしぶみ)などでは冒頭に差出しと宛名(あてな)、次に内容を要約した事書(ことがき)があり、続いて本文（中書き）となる。また宣旨(せんじ)、下知状(げちじょう)などでは、まず事書があり、続いて本文となる。これらの場合、本文は事書を受ける形で「右云々」と書き出す。御教書(みぎょうしょ)、書状などでは一定しないが、差出者と受取者との地位の高下などによって、書出しの文言は変化するものである。
