...A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama period. He was known as Katsusaburo, and after shaving his head he took the name Shiyouyu. The Kansei Shoshu Shokafu and other sources say he was Nobuteru, but this name is not confirmed by any reliable historical sources. His mother, Yotokuin, was Oda Nobunaga's wet nurse. He served in the Oda clan's various battles of conquest, and in 1580 (Tensho 8) he distinguished himself by attacking the Araki clan of Settsu, for which he was given a fief within the province, and appointed the Takayama, Nakagawa, Abe, Shiokawa, and Itami clans as his yoriki. The following year he was ordered to lead the Settsu army and assist in the capture of Inaba Tottori Castle. After the Honnoji Incident in 1582, he allied with Hashiba (Toyotomi) Hideyoshi and defeated Akechi Mitsuhide at Yamazaki, and also participated in the Kiyosu Conference to dispose of the remaining territories of the Oda clan, and father and son were given lands of over 120,000 koku in Osaka, Amagasaki, and Hyogo. *Some of the terminology that refers to "Ikeda Katsuiri" is listed below.
